WOYW?Wednesday

What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday.

another brain strain for me....I went to a "mixed-media" mini album class last week. I LOVE mini's but have never ventured into mixed media type crafting. Not sure I was cut out for it. I had Glue and Gesso all over the dang place. Maybe messy crafters should be isolated from the group when attempting these type of projects for the first time LOL!  The mini class was put on by the company Punky Sprouts.

I am currently trying to figure out where to punch the rings so that I catch all the pages/tags twice in my album. All the pages are different sizes! You can see I have my handy, dandy THoltz ruler out and trying to measure it all out in my head before I try to remember how to use my big ole hole puncher thingie again.

I also have several HM cards in different stages of completion...again, focus seems to be an issue! I want to do it all!

I did manage to get a little organization done this week. Remember when I showed you how I organized my scraps in little drawers? see below...
scraps
The next step was the full sheets of cardstock...I used to have them in a  hanging file folder and did not like that(took up too much room) and so I took the files out and set them on the shelf. I liked that for a while, but they just kept getting messier and messier...finally this is what I came up with...wasn't sure I would like it, but it really is growing on me...I put all the full sheets in cheapo magazine holders I had in the closet. All this cardstock is SU! and I arranged it by colors, not by SU! families.

Before....
and
After

Much better. Ran out of magazine holders for now, but you get the idea.
The bottom shelf you see has the 6x6 DP paper pads in a Rubbermaid shoe box and then I have a couple clear paper holders for my Neenah paper.

Stop in and see what the crafty crafters are up to this week...sometimes you see tidy desks and sometimes you see messy and sometimes you see real disasters LOL! It's all in fun!
Say Hello to Julia when you head over to The Stamping Ground.

Yep, I feel your pain. I loved mixed media stuff but in a controlled way :) I like to use the techniques on embellishments, or cards, but never really got in to the Art Journaling thing. I think my head is just to cluttered to even try to get my thoughts down on paper. And I have too many other things I am "into" to devote the time to AJ. A minibook sounds more do-able to me, but even so I suspect it would be more about experimenting with the technique and less about the mini, IYKWIM. MY desk is surprisingly tidy, this week but not sure that is a good thing - too much time tidying, not enough creating :)

Happy WOYWW

You're brave, am not sure I'm up to a multi media workshop just yet!! I love the idea of different size pages though, that's really cool. I store my card stock the same way, but my cupboard is deep enough to lie the magazine holders on their long edge. Makes stuff accessible..and hey, doesn't it look great!

When I visited your desk this morning that thing that popped out at me was all the colors on the backsides of your desk (markers, cards, etc.) and all the black and white in the forefront. Very nice! Your scrap papers inspired me to sort through my drawers of patterned papers sorted by colors in similar drawers. I cleaned out a big stack of them that I am unlikely to use (being as I have enough paper to start my own store) and passed them on to stamping buddies. I love your color paper full sheet storage. It looks so nice in the magazine holders, much tidier and easier to get to. You must tell me about the plastic bins your Neenah paper is in. Mind is piled under my computer desk (in fact my knee is resting on it right now). I worry I'm messing it up having it so in the open. Sometimes if a sheet or two sticks out from the stack when I pull it out is has kitty teeth prints in it! I need to put it in something to protect it. I buy it by the ream. Oh, and the mixed media stuff--I don't get into that messy crafting bit too much. Not like I'm a girly girl who doesn't like to get messy, but when I do get messy I'll make a righteous mess of it--neighboring counties will have fall out.

If you got messy doing mixed media then you did it right!! It is so fun to get messy!
Your studio looks awesome! And so organized!

Oh this looks so very organised - I always feel more like crafting when you can find everything easily, but it never stays like that for long!

Ooh you are organised! Really tidy and lovely. I suppose someone who is tidy like that is going to be upset by glue and gesso all over the place but that's part of what makes media so much FUN lol lol!!

ohhh mixed media! I'm having fun diving into the messy world! If you don't have one, get a craft mat from Scor-Pal, it is big and stays put!!
Great organization of all your papers!

I love mixed media! It's like baking... the messier I am the better the outcome. I've been known to rise from the Lair with paint on my pants, shirt and sometimes my face! Great organizing ideas too! Happy WOYWW! Warmly, Tracy #16

Would you look at this desk - the place where a true artist does her marvelous creations. I will follow you no matter where you go - hey, wasn't that a song a long time ago!!

I don't do well with mixed media, either. I make such a mess and I usually don't like the end results much. Your project and desk are looking great, though. You have a very colorful space. Dani132

Hang in there. I think that altered art and mixed media takes a lot of work getting used to. I am still a messy crafter but I have a lot of fun getting that way! Love the organization. I have been thinking about reorganizing my colors too. broke down and did the stamp pads by color but the card is still by families. I am still a SU demo and old habits die hard but I am seriously considering getting out cause they have so many limits on what you can and can't do now days. I don't sell $100 a year and mostly signed up to be a hobby demo. Love the HM card in the next post. Have a great week and thanks for posting on my blog. Vickie

Thanks for your nice comment on my blog, Sue. Up and down health wise and not so good today I'm afraid, but there's always tomorrow! All par for the course, and I'll be back in my ARTHaven before you know it.

It's interesting about that portrait - everyone tends to think the woman is pregnant! After 5 1/2 centuries you'd expect fashions and attitudes to change - but some things never change, as I tried to show by the journaling of what the symbols in the picture portray. I love that painting!

Okay - it is me again. The one thing I do not understand about your desk - you have a champagne glass with a candle. Sue, did no one tell you what goes in t THAT glass???

I'm also another one not up to the mixed media type of thing and I sympathise for those sitting next to you on the course, lol! I'd be the same. After your last post you got me looking in the local store for plastic drawers like you have to put the paper scraps in. Still measuring my are and looking where they can go but I see some in my future too!

Glad to know that someone else gets stuff all over the place! I'm such a mess when I craft. lol Great ideas for organizing our little Heavens on Earth!

I've discovered the best part of mixed media is the mess you make! At first I didn't like the mod podge on my fingers but now - well I remember when I was in grade school and thought peeling glue off my fingers was the COOLEST thing around!!

That after shot of your bookshelf is amazing - lots of hard work there.

Happy WOYWW
